Use Copic Ink to dye
embroidery threads to create
your very own masterpiece!

It’s super easy!
Just drop a few dots of ink, rub the threads, and wait for them to dry.

Supplies:

  • Copic Inks of your choice (3 colors in the same color group are recommended.)

  • White embroidery threads

  • Rubber gloves

  • A plate or shallow bowl that can get dirty (Alternatively, a disposable paper/plastic plate/bowl can be used.)

Please read before using Copic Ink:

  • Copic Ink is alcohol ink. It's flammable, so please do not use or store it near a fireplace. Also, please avoid direct sunlight when storing.

  • Please use Copic Ink in a room with good ventilation as the ink volatilizes while using (or wear a mask). If you feel sick, we recommend drinking water so the alcohol that was breathed into your body can be broken down.

  • Copic ink is a dye ink and does not come off easily when you get a stain on your skin or clothes. Please wear something that can get dirty, and please protect your workspace. (Click here to see FAQs of Copic Ink)

  • Please keep Copic Ink out of reach of young children.

Step 1:

Gather your materials: white embroidery threads and Copic Ink.
TIP: if you’re trying this for the first time, we recommend using three colors in the same color group.
The example here is BV0000, BV01 and BV04.

Step 2:

Put a bundle of whilte embroidery threads on a paper plate and add a few drops of Copic Ink (it doesn’t matter which of the 3 colors you use first). Crumple the bundle of threads with your gloved hand so the ink can absorb well.

Step 3:

Apply another color in the same way. You can make nice color gradients easily by using only three colors in the same color group!

Step 4:

Pay attention to the area where the two colors blend. Rub these areas with your fingers well and see if the colors are blending to your liking.

Step 5:

When the colors come out to your liking, let the threads dry in a place away from direct sunlight and with good ventilation. Once they are completely dried, you can use them for knitting and embroidery!

Fluorescent colors work very well too!
