Multiliner vs Multiliner SP:
what's the difference?
Explain the basic differences between these 2 types of pens
The Copic brand is primarily known for their high-quality markers, but did you know that Copic also has a wide selection of pens? Introducing the Copic Multiliner and Multiliner SP! These pens come in a wide variety of nib widths and colors, and the SP is refillable, just like the markers! Before we dive deeper into each of these pens, let’s compare the two and see what makes them different!
As you can see from the graphic above, the Multiliner pen comes in 10 different colors, has 11 different nib sizes, is disposable and has a suggested retail price of $3.99. On the other hand, the Multiliner SP comes in 1 color (Black), has 10 different nib sizes, can be refilled and have the nibs replaced, and has a suggested retail price of $12.49.
Copic designed both of these pens to meet the needs of different artists; the Multiliner pen is great for crafters, lettering, occasional use and/or for a beginner, while the Multiliner SP is great for artists who like to use black pens consistently and are either aspiring professionals or full-time artists.
First, let’s dive a little deeper into the regular Multiliner pen. This pen comes in 10 colors: Black, Cool Gray, Warm Gray, Sepia, Brown, Wine, Cobalt, Olive, Pink, and Lavender.
The Multiliner pen also comes in 11 different nib widths; 0.03, 0.05, 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.8, 1.0, Brush Small, Brush Medium, Calligraphy Small, and Calligraphy Medium.
Overall, the regular Multiliner pen is a great tool for both art and for lettering! This pen is suitable for beginners, hobbyists, and/or professionals alike!
Next up, let’s take a closer look at the Multiliner SP! This pen comes in only 1 color (Black), and has 10 different nib widths: 0.03, 0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.25, 0.3, 0.35, 0.5, 0.7, and Brush.
What makes the Multiliner SP unique in comparison to the regular Multiliner pen is that the SP can be refilled and can have the nibs replaced! Let’s take a look at the graphic below to see all the components that encompass the Multiliner SP.
As you can see in the image above, there are replaceable ink cartridges for the SP and they come in 2 sizes. Cartridge A is for nib sizes 0.03, 0.05, and 0.1. Cartridge B is for nib sizes 0.2, 0.25, 0.3, 0.35, 0.5, 0.7, and Brush. To replace your ink cartridge, simply twist and pull off the back end of your SP pen. This will slide out the old cartridge, and all you have to do is take off the plastic covering of the replaceable ink cartridge and insert it into the pen. It’s that easy!
And, since there are 10 different SP nib sizes, there are 10 different replaceable nibs!
The Multiliner SP is a fully sustainable pen, just like Copic markers. The SP is made of a sleek and sturdy aluminum body that will last a very long time; all you have to do is replace the nibs when they’re dull and the ink when it’s dry!
Now that you know a little more about the Multiliner and Multiliner SP, put your drawing skills to the test! Use any of the 10 Multiliner colors, or go with the Black Multiliner SP and practice your lettering, sketching, and/or crafting and share your creations with us on Instagram @copic_official_us or using the hashtag #copicwithus!
