THE HISTORY OF COPIC

Copic was created as a marker that does not dissolve copy toner, and over its long history, the number of colors and variations have increased to meet various needs.

INSPIRED BY CARING FOR COMMUNITY

In 1919 (Taisho 8), a small stationery store opened in front of Aoyama Gakuin in Shibuya, Tokyo. This was the birth of Izumiya, the predecessor of Too Co., Ltd.

Soyo Ishii was just 28 years old when she founded the shop. Although she had young children to look after, she managed the shop with sincerity and perseverance, and earned the trust of her customers, who were painters and art students.

Soon after, a student in the neighborhood who painted as a hobby started to sell paints, brushes, and sketchbooks in the store.

Since there were no stores selling professional art supplies in the area, word spread that "if you come to Izumiya, you'll find everything you need."

The store became a favorite destination for artists from Shibuya, Setagaya, Meguro, and Shinagawa. The rest is history.

COPIC markers were originally created for fine art and design. COPIC markers were found to be so versatile, they are now popular tools for product design, architecture, fashion design, comic illustration, automotive design and crafts.

Now Copic markers are distributed in more than 50 countries around the world and receiving international acclaim.
